Poems for Screaming Steel: Art, War and Trauma
Client: Yvette Hawkins
Visual artist Yvette Hawkins invited Velcrobelly to collaborate on her Poems for Screaming Steel: Art, War and Trauma project – a set of prints depicting nine poems presented inside a commemorative archive box, commissioned by Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts.
The poetry set coincided with an exhibition at Newcastle University’s Hatton Gallery in 2014, which examined the response of artists and writers to the horrors suffered by soldiers in the First World War.
The set included: nine illustrated poetry showcards printed on heavy uncoated card; three original artworks created specially for the set – which were printed onto aluminium sheet; a contents card; and a screen printed box.
