Ripley

A colourful portrait of Ellen Ripley from Alien, one of my favourite movie series.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, I started to paint as a creative outlet that didn’t require staring intently at a screen all day.

I wanted to use bright colours in unusual contexts – and to explore what I could achieve without an Undo button. This is the first painting where I added spray paint to the mix.

I started to stipple when I discovered – gasp! – that I couldn’t magically paint exactly how I wanted to, without years of practice.

The stippling process continues throughout this series of painting, and changes as I experiment with the style.
