Newcastle Castle souvenir guide book design

Client: The Heart of the City Partnership

Newcastle Castle commissioned Velcrobelly to undertake a redesign of their souvenir guide book design.

This 40 page publication chronicles the 800-year history of this iconic Tyneside heritage site from Roman Empire to present day.

Writer Peter Cumiskey overhauled the text which had remained relatively unchanged for decades.

To complement this approach, Velcrobelly designed the book to make it accessible and engaging; with prominent use of dynamic layouts, call-out boxes, archive photography and illustrations to ensure that the book feels like a premium souvenir worthy of it’s place in the Castle shop.

The guide book was expertly printed by Potts

The Gateway to Old Newcastle souvenir guide book is available to buy in person from The Black Gate at Newcastle Castle and Newcastle City library

Velcrobelly have also created a range of marketing design materials for the Castle.
