This record sleeve illustration and design project was a private commission for a business client who wanted to present a very special gift to his mother for her sixtieth birthday.
He had written and produced a number of songs dedicated to her, and he wanted to create a custom pop art-inspired LP record sleeve to complete the presentation.
The cover portrait was illustrated from a photo of her wedding day.
In researching pop art, I was immediately drawn to Milton Glazer’s Pushpin Studios work, and most obviously his 1966 Dylan poster as inspiration for the hair and typography. The client also suggested that his mother liked The Beatles and that led me think of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band for colour inspiration.
