Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme – identity design
Client: Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme
The Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme (RTYDS) is a professional artist development programme for new and emerging theatre directors in the UK. RTYDS nurture talented theatre directors at the early stage of their careers; developing their skills and experience, and providing unique training and professional development opportunities in leading regional theatres.
In 2015, RTYDS didn’t have a brand identity to speak of; just a low resolution logo file which had seen better days, and use of the colour blue.
RTYDS were happy with the basic design of their logotype, so Velcrobelly set about making some minor modifications for legibility and most importantly; creating a functional suite of logo formats suitable for print and digital deployment. A square logo was also developed for use on social media platforms.
The pre-existing blue colour was adjusted to optimise its appearence in print and screen-based media. A suite of complementary colours was specified to allow for vibrancy, variety and to prevent design monotony.
Velcrobelly introduced a ‘Spotlight’ pattern motif inspired by stage lighting. This abstract and adjustable pattern of overlapping geometric shapes allows for dynamic shape, colour and opacity opportunities within RTYDS design layouts.
The branding suite was completed with specifications for headline and text fonts.
With the brand identity complete, RTYDS commissioned Velcrobelly to create a suite of business stationery, display banner, merchandise and a website.
The website is looking fantastic. Thanks for doing such great work on it – it’s been a pleasure working with you and all your patience and good humour has been much appreciated. I think we’ve got a really good site now – I’m really happy with it.
